Mandlerhof - Active, above Merano

Verano, where the sun shines longer

The small village of Verano, in the Merano area, lies 1,200 m above sea level and is part of the Monzoccolo or Tschögglberg, a small mountain range lying between Bolzano and Merano. It is linked to the Adige valley by the cable car line that runs to Postal, or Burgstall and a road that goes to Avelengo, or Hafling, and then to Merano, which is easily travelled in both the winter and the summer months. Sun worshippers will love Verano and the surrounding area. It is blessed by a mild climate from Spring to late Autumn and is excellent for strolls and walks, followed by a nice rest in the comfortable local inns. Thanks to our fortunate position near Merano, there are a lot of trips to be taken to the nearby towns, such as Merano, the city of flowers, with its historic porticoes and the new spa, or Bolzano, the city of culture, which offers theatre, dance and of course Ötzi, the ancient ice mummy.

Mandlerhof - fun all year round

Spring

In the Spring, nature awakens to new life at the Mandlerhof above Merano - meadows of crocus and fresh green grass as far as the eye can see. Close your eyes and breathe in the fresh air.

Summer

In the Summer there is a lot to see right at the farm itself. Such as a mountain bike tour over the various forest and high-country paths in the Merano region, a romantic ride on traditional Haflinger horses in Avelengo and Verano or a nordic walking tour over high-lying alms, or simply relaxing on our wooden recliners at the Mandlerhof.

Suggested walk: Mandlerhof – Auenerjoch – Stoanerne Mandlen – Möltner Kaser – Mandlerhof, Time required: about 5 hrs
Difficulty: low, does require some stamina, Elevation gain: about 500 m
Best time of year for this route: Early May to early November

From the Mandlerhof, take the narrow path directly above the barn and after 50 m take path No. 15 in the direction of the Möltner Kaser mountain dairy. Above the meadow, turn left and follow path No. 11 to the Malga di Verano (Vöraner Alm). At the brook take path 11 in the direction of the Auenerjoch and follow the arrow to arrive directly at the cairns known as the Stoanernen Mandlen (stone men). From there take path 23A that runs slightly downhill to the Möltner Kaser. Path 15 leads from there directly back to the Mandlerhof.

Please note: always follow the paths marked in red and white, all other paths are meant for the use of forest service personnel and woodsmen.

Suggested walk: Mandlerhof – Sattlerhütte – Möltner Kaser - Mandlerhof
Time required: about 2 hours or 3.2 hrs, Difficulty: low, Elevation gain: about 100 m or 260 m
Best time of year for this route: Early May to early November

Directly below the Mandlerhof, take path No. 38 to the Obermichelerhof farm and continue from there on path 38 straight to the SattlerHütte. If you wish, you can return the same way you came or continue on to the Möltner Kaser and then take path 15 straight back to the Mandlerhof.

Suggested walk: Mandlerhof – Wurzer Alm
Time required: about 2–3 hours, Difficulty: low,
Elevation gain: about 200 m
Best time of year for this route: April to early November

From the Mandlerhof, take the narrow path directly above the barn and after about 50 m take path No. 15 in the direction of the Möltner Kaser mountain dairy. Above the meadow, turn left and follow path No. 11 to the Malga di Verano (Vöraner Alm). Turn left at the Rossbach brook. You can rest at the little pond. From there, follow path 2A directly to the Wurzer Alm. On the way back, take path No. 2, turn right almost immediately and follow first the path marked 11B and then 11 A to the pond. From there it is easy to retrace your steps home.

Autumn

Autumn invites you to lovely walks through the brightly coloured woods and meadows surrounded by stands of larches and breath-taking, glass-clear views. Autumn is harvest time: the best of everything from the kitchen, the cellar and the garden is on the table. Let yourself be pampered in the alm-huts and the farmhouse drinking holes and enjoy wine and chestnut season.

Winter

In Winter, your farmhouse vacation starts right outside your door. Snowy fields, crystalline air, unbelievable quiet... relax you in a very special way.

Starting at the farm, you can plan romantic winter strolls and snowshoe walks in Verano and the Merano 2000 ski area. For all those who love their peaks and their powder, the Merano 2000 ski area, only 15 minutes away, is the place to be for skiers and snowboarders.
